We all see changes in gear and tackle that push our nymph
fishing abilities to the next level. Secrets of fishing long
French leaders, Czech Nymphing tech, flat mono tight line
nymph popularized by Joe Humphreys, High Stick Upper Sac Ted
Fay Tech, Right angle nymphing tech.......yadda yadda yadda...it
goes on and on.
The one trend that we've
seen recently is the use of longer rods for nymphing with
our western high sticking tech. With rods getting lighter
and lighter Switch rods and long single handed rods are
certainly the quills serious nymph fishers should look at.
Many that fish waters like the Pit, Upper Sac, Truckee and
the East Walker fish tight line techniques that require the
wading angler to get into position and fish a controlled
tight line that cuts through the water column. Obviously a
longer rod has more positives that negatives for the nymph
fisher in these situations. Especially for anglers like
myself that are of short stature. Waters that would require
an indicator style of fishing could now be covered with a
tight line with the longer rod. Of course with indicator
nymphing the extra length is primary for line control –
allowing bigger mends and drifts that are more drag-free.
Here are a few that will help any high sticker out there!

impressed us to no end. It throws a wonderful line...little
to no line oscillation even when shocking the tip on a hard
