If you’ve been dreaming of catching some
extra large black bass, this is the time to head out to the East
Delta. The bass are in a pre-spawn mode and anglers are using a
variety of flies to nail fish in the 5 to 6lb class.
The big bass are holding outside the weeds along current edges.
The key depths have been 3 to 10 feet.
There are some large schools of 3 to 9 pound stripers around. They
tend to stay on the move. One day some are in Potato Slough, but
at other times they've been located them in the main San Joaquin.
If you come across them, they can be taken. |

If you’ve been dreaming of catching a limit of 5 black bass with a
total weight of 30 pounds or more, you should head out to the East
Delta as soon as possible. Having said that, while big bass are
hitting, they are not particularly easy to catch.
Due to the recent fluctuations in weather there is virtually no
reaction bite. To get your fish, you’ll have to slow down and rely
on finesse tactics.
We’ve got fish in a pre-spawn mode, fish on beds and fish that
have already spawned. The post spawn fish are holding on shelves
along the outside edge of the cover.
There have been few reports of anglers targeting striped bass in
the East Delta.
