Coastal Rivers
Flows have been on the low side for this time of year with a few rivers on the low flow closure.
Visibility depending on the river, a few feet of steelhead green to gin clear.
The coast has been treating us swing anglers extremely well over the past few weeks, and with a fresh flushing that just happened and more to come, there will be a nice rotation of fish into all of the systems as far south as Gualala all the way up to the Smith.
On a few recent trips we were able to find some willing adults to take our sung flies. Black and Blue was the go to color, but also Orange as well as Purple/Pink Purple/Orange. Over the last several weeks, we were fishing skagits with 10-12.5ft of T8 and on some deeper and or faster runs we swung with 10-12.5ft of t11 as well. Myself and a few other anglers opted for scandi style head and tips and that worked extremely well too. With the lower flows the fish were able to move around a bit more due to the lack of seals and sea lions and boats. It made for a great few weeks of fishing if swinging was your thing. Big storm is rolling through, so if you are looking to get out before the season is over, get out there now before this next front or soon after when flows start dropping.
