With improving spring weather, Lake Almanor fly fishing is starting to heat up as we move deeper into March. Water conditions are stabilizing and fish activity is increasing across the lake.
Smallmouth Bass Pre-Spawn Action
Right now Lake Almanor smallmouth bass are in the pre-spawn phase and actively feeding. This is a great time to target aggressive fish as they stage before moving onto beds. We expect bass to begin pairing off within the next week or two.
Once the spawn begins, it’s best to give the bass about two weeks to complete their spawn before targeting them again. Responsible fishing during this period helps protect the fishery.
