Lower Lower Yuba
Flows Above Daguerre 1460cfs
Flows Below Daguerre 1390cfs (PRIME TIME)

This is one stretch of the river that I pretty much have all to myself and it’s been lights out with these higher than normal flows for this time of year. Down here it’s all about swinging and the fish are beyond grabby. Plenty of trout to go around for everyone and this is also the time of year where you will see some of the biggest steelhead entering the Yuba River system. Trout speys are the name of the game, but I also bring light 5wt spey rods to swing some bigger bugs and sink tips in those deeper funs for those elusive Yubicorns. Weve been swinging many different flies down here but the main flies have been brown or chartreuse Euphoria, sculpins, black and blue, olive and orange, alevins as well as olive soft hackle style flies in sz8 to mimic skwalas stones.

Speaking of skwalas, we’ve been having some decent action on dries below daguerre, nothing like above daguerre, but we still get some fish looking up on those warmer days in the more oxygenated riffly water. Big thing down here is “NO PRESSURE”. So well presented skwala will get the “EAT”. Love it down here this time of year, no pressure, fish are grabby and on any given grab it can be one of those elusive Yuba River Steelhead.

Look for this section of river to continue to produce extremely well for the following months to come.
