Lower Lower Yuba
1200cfs
Getting skinny running the Jets, not recommended if you don’t run one on a regular basis. Striper fishing has slowed down with the typical run of the mill Yuba stripers, but if you do tag one, it’s gonna be a dandy. We broke one of close to the boat today that was easy 20lbs. Trout spey has been a blast, have found plenty of willing trout and a few Yuba-corns too. 3 and 4wt trout speys are all you need. Doing some hopper dropper as well while walkin and stalking. Doing this as more of a teaching aid on how to read water and how to fish when using drys, indo rigs or anything other than swinging. We are getting a few eats on top but most are on the dropper these days. The special treat with swinging it the occasional nasty grab from a striper. If it’s one over a few pounds, you better hold on. We’ve even touched a some shad in the past few weeks swinging a “traditional chartreuse type euphoria fly” but don’t tell anyone, or you know the rest.
This river will only continue to get better as the days get shorter cooler and the salmon start staging to spawn.
Guide future tip
Fish this in December to March for those Yuba-corn steelhead. No need for the a 3hr drive when you connect with one of these freight trains.
