The American River winding through Sacramento is currently flowing at 4200 cfs. There are a few steelhead in the river but should increase in numbers over the next two months.
There are stripers in the system but the numbers are way down this summer. None the less there are schooly size as well as some big hens swimming about.
The usual clousers in olive and white and olive and yellow and many other baitfish patterns will produce for you just fine in sizes 2 to 2/0. Intermediate as well as fast sinking 24 to 30 foot integrated sink tips are the lines of choice. I like a six foot leader of fluorocarbon, 15 to 20 pound test.
