Lake Almanor has been fishing good. The Hex Hatch was amazing. During the hatch mornings were fishing slower than normal. However, the mornings are now fishing great since the rise in temperature balanced leeches and midge patterns are working well. Surface temps on the Lake have risen to 70°F by noon, and 74°F by 4pm. This is extremely bad for the fish. Large trout spend most of their time deep where there is more dissolved oxygen and cooler temperatures. When the surface temps jump over 70°F there is very little oxygen for large fish to revive and live. As fly fishermen we need to be responsible for the fish we love to chase. Look for inlets and spring when water get too hot, there will be more dissolved oxygen there as well as fish. Tight lines!
